Coming to any church for the first time can seem a bit daunting so to make it easier we have created this page with questions you may ask before coming along. If you can think of any other questions that you think should be on here then please use the form at the bottom to do so.
Do you have parking?
The bane of modern life is ‘where to park’. In our case there is a public free car park adjacent to the Whitchurch centre with ample room where most people in the church park their various size and shaped motors and old bangers.
Can I bring my child/children?
The children on Sunday morning have their own meetings in the Whitchurch Centre nearby (30 paces). The babies have a creche in the back room. Don’t be afraid to bring your offspring – we will make them welcome. All of our children’s workers have been fully DBS checked.
What is the size of the congregation?
The church has around 150 members and on a “normal” Sunday there will be some 200 present in the morning. This figure includes around 50 children who have their own group time in the Whitchurch centre close by.
The under 5 creche is in a room next to the main part of the building which then becomes a coffee lounge after the meeting where you can chat with friends. The service is a mixture of worship songs, prayers and sermon, which is a talk exploring what the Bible teaches, and what difference that makes in our lives (this sometimes includes what the Minister has been doing in the last week and often the odd joke or two!).
Sunday evening has around 50 present. This meeting can often be a little more reflective.
Whichever one you come to you will have a great welcome and be made to feel at home.
Is there a collection?
There is no charge for attendance. We are pleased that you come. On Sunday morning the members who don’t give via the bank put in ‘the bag’ but we also tell everyone that “members are expecting the bag, don’t be embarrassed – just let the bag pass by”.
When do we meet?
Our main meeting is Sunday morning at 10:30am but there is also a meeting at 6:00pm.
Small groups meet in the middle of the week on different days at different places. There are other activities such as lunch club on Wednesday and the children and youth meet on a Tuesday night and the toddlers (and parents) meet on a Monday. You can check the full list of what’s on here.
What should I wear?
The jokey answer is clothes would be a good idea ! But seriously most people come in casual clothes. The older generation tend to be a bit more formal but don’t get hung up about what to wear. You come to worship and meet God not a fashion show.
